PA'LANTE's 2016 Annual Benefit WINGS OF JUSTICE honored civil rights and civil liberties lawyer Norman Siegel, Jamillah Richards, Cal Snyder and Edward Torres, because PA'LANTE recognizes that justice does not only get served by those with financial or political power, but that justice can come from any individual willing to dedicate their time and effort. Jamillah has worked tirelessly to support safe and affordable housing through community organizing and advocacy in conjunction with PA'LANTE, but has also dedicated herself to working on behalf of our youth. Edward volunteers his time, not only to PA'LANTE, but also to NYC Love Kitchen, where he feeds the homeless, a community that is near and dear to his heart, because he was once homeless himself. Mr. Siegel served as the executive director of the New York Civil Liberties Union and in his private practice, he fights for a fairer America. Cal Snyder works closely with Mr. Siegel and is the author of Out of Fire and Valor: The War Memorials of New York City from the Revolution to 9/11.
The P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. team would like to take a moment to thank our friends, generous supporters, neighbors and sponsors for supporting Wings of Justice. What we do for our community, the residents of this city who benefit by our counsel, would not be possible without their unwavering support. For eight years we have worked tirelessly and have seen many successes but as you know there is still much work to be done.
The goal of P.A.’L.A.N.T.E. is, was and will always be to empower low and middle income residents in New York City, to preserve and increase New York City’s affordable housing stock and ensure tenant safety and rights. We are proud to be top-rated nonprofit by GreatNonprofits for the fourth consecutive year and we hope this demonstrates our dedication to our mission.
